Pre-Summit Ministerial Segment II – Action Track #1: Inclusive; equitable, healthy and safe schools

Pre-Summit Ministerial Segment II – Action Track #1: Inclusive; equitable, healthy and safe schools

30 June 2022 10:10 am –11:25 am ( CET – Paris time)

This session, part of the United Nations Transforming Education Pre-Summit, will discuss the key elements of transformation needed to ensure inclusive, equitable, safe and healthy schools. Through a dynamic intergenerational dialogue between young people and decision-makers, you can hear more about transformation in action and strategic initiatives to deliver transformative education at scale, and reach the most marginalized.

Inclusive transformative education ensures that all learners have unhindered access to quality education, that they are safe and healthy, free from violence and discrimination, and are supported with comprehensive care services within school settings. Transformation is essential to unlock the potential of learners in all their diversity; end harmful gender norms, attitudes and practices; and transform institutions to achieve just, equal, accepting, inclusive, healthy and peaceful societies.

University of Huddersfield and the University of Clermont Auvergne – reflections of effective intersectoral working

University of Huddersfield and the University of Clermont Auvergne – reflections of effective intersectoral working

The first term of the UNESCO Chair ‘Global Health and Education’, based in the Faculty of Education with title holder Professor Didier Jourdan at the University of Clermont Auvergne (France), has been notable for its strong collaboration with the Faculties of Dentistry and Pharmacy, embodying the intersectoral working upon which the Chair is founded.

It provides an interesting and appropriate symmetry, therefore, that the second term of the Chair may find a mirror at the University of Huddersfield (UK) where the co-Chairholder, Dr Nicola Gray, is based in the Faculty of Pharmacy. The recent visit by Prof Jourdan to Huddersfield included meetings with colleagues in the Faculties of Human and Health Sciences, and of Education and Professional Development.

The University of Huddersfield and the Chair both agree that intersectoral work is essential, and we see that professionals from the different faculties will bring different strengths to the work of the Chair.
